Building Together, which unifies the former Members’ Pathway (Craft) and Archway (Royal Arch), is central to how we will grow and sustain Essex Freemasonry. It is not simply a tool for recruitment, but a framework of best practice that helps Lodges and Chapters attract new candidates, while also supporting and retaining existing members.
At present, we continue to lose too many Brethren within their first three years, often one in five, and this is a challenge we must address. Building Together offers a structured approach to ensure every new initiate understands his journey, has a clear sense of “what’s next,” and feels supported throughout his progression. From initiation to potential office, every Brother and Companion should have the guidance and encouragement he needs to enjoy and value his membership.
This harmonised approach reflects the wider vision of Freemasonry as One Organisation. By presenting Craft and Royal Arch as complementary stages of a single, seamless journey, we can ensure that Lodges and Chapters work hand-in-hand to nurture, retain, and inspire their members.
Experience shows us that Lodges which “play together, stay together.” Growth cannot be achieved through recruitment alone, it comes from building strong
bonds of friendship, ensuring members feel cared for, and creating opportunities to enjoy Freemasonry both inside and outside the Lodge room.
What we will do
Through these commitments, Building Together will not only help us welcome more men into Essex Freemasonry, but will ensure they stay, thrive, and contribute to the life of our Lodges and Chapters for many years to come.
