Two new initiates for Colcestria Lodge: one with a Masonic family connection and the other a military association with the Colchester Garrison

Colcestria Lodge No. 7123 held two initiation ceremonies at their regular meeting on Saturday 26th April 2025 at the St Giles Masonic Centre in Colchester. One of the initiates was the 18-year-old grandson of the lodge's longest-serving member, while the other was a former Royal Military Policeman.
First to enter the lodge was Dave George Clayton, grandson of David Clayton. Dave is now the third generation of the Clayton family to be a member of Colcestria Lodge, following his great grandfather and grandfather. He expressed his hope to uphold the reputation and service to the lodge and Freemasonry established by his family. A sense of pride could be felt by everyone that had the privilege to witness this wonderful family moment. Dave is currently a student at Essex University and has been interested in Freemasonry since age 11 after watching the Sky TV programme 'Inside the Freemasons' and linking it to his grandfather's ritual book that was always near his armchair.
Lleyton Mann, 24, a former Royal Military Policeman, first enquired about Freemasonry when he met a member of Colcestria Lodge while serving with 156 Provost Company in Colchester Garrison. His initiation was delayed by approximately two years, but he remained engaged with the lodge by attending social functions and staying in contact through the lodge's informal WhatsApp group. Lleyton is scheduled to start training with Essex Police in the summer as part of a career change.
The Lodge was honoured by the presence of Philip Lovelock, Assistant Provincial Grand Master (APGM), and Tony White, the former APGM for Colcestria Lodge. Philip was pleased to welcome Dave and Lleyton along with several other new members since his last official visit.
The afternoon concluded with a festive board attended by approximately 40 individuals, including two recent initiates visiting from the United Lodge No. 697.
It was a notable day for Colcestria Lodge, involving family connections within Freemasonry and military associations stemming from the Garrison town of Colchester.
