Essex County Golf Lodge hold their first Open Championship
The prestigious Stock Brook Manor Golf and Country Club was the setting for this first Open Championship of the newly formed Essex Lodge
The Essex County Golf Lodge (ECGL) No. 10045, consecrated on the 20th April this year with pomp and grandeur, held their first Open Championship at the prestigious Stock Brook Manor Golf and Country Club on Thursday 29th August.
37 golfers, 12 who were guests and non-masons, enjoyed the warm dry weather, a course in great condition followed by a two-course meal.
It was great sight to see ECGL members sporting their green ties and jackets and looking very smart.
All standards of golf were on display which was reflected in the varied scores produced. Top performer and our ‘Champion golfer of the year’ went to Ian Watson with 39 points, followed by Paul Scott 37, and Phil Vance 36 on countback. Nearest the pins went to Ian Watson and Chris Sandercombe.
The Provincial Grand Master (PGM), Paul Tarrant was in attendance and took part in the tournament together with presenting Ian Watson with his well-earned trophy.
Whilst it was not supposed to be a charity day, a long-distance putt out with a 1930’s putter, raffle and auction raised over £500, which will be added to the ECGL current charity collections with a decision being made on its distribution very soon.
The day was a tremendous success and Steve Martin the event organiser was justly proud and thanked all those who attended in making it a great start to the Lodges golfing itinerary.
They now look forward to a vintage dress and four club golf day in October – all are welcome, and details will be posted shortly.
