The plight of Southend’s homeless gave WBro Barry Stedman, of Nore Lodge No 3610, the idea that his lodge could donate 100 thermally insulated sleeping bags for distribution among the city’s rough sleepers.

After the members of the lodge instantly agreed, WBro Barry and fellow lodge member WBro Trevor Darby visited HARP, Southend’s charity for the homeless, to deliver the sleeping bags.

The charity is based at the Bradbury Centre in York Road, which coincidentally was opened by The Grand Master in February 2016.
