Cross Keys Community Fund raises over £1,100 in just one weekend with fun, family and fundraising in the forefront

Who says fundraising can’t be fun? The Cross Keys Community Fund (CKCF), supported by local Essex Freemasons, turned a simple weekend into a whirlwind of laughter, energy, and generosity, raising over £1,100 to support good causes across the county.
The weekend kicked off in style with ‘Sam’s Quiz’, a lively night hosted by none other than Sam Connor, who brought the house down in Thurrock with his unique brand of quizmaster flair. From sombreros and ‘Baldy’ wigs to inflatable chickens and penalty points for not dancing to The Macarena, the night was anything but ordinary. What started as a light-hearted evening turned into a roaring success, raising £500 for CKCF, and a few eyebrows along the way!
The energy didn’t stop there. Despite the late night, CKCF committee member Mick Draper laced up his running shoes and tackled a 5k cross-country fun run with his daughter Jessica in Mucking, Essex, raising another £300 for the fund.
Keeping it all in the family, Mick’s son Jimmy Draper joined the effort by organising a five-a-side football tournament, joined by friends, family, and colleagues from Crusely Trailer Engineering. The event scored big, adding £320 to the weekend total.
Crusely Trailer Engineering has been a long-standing supporter of the CKCF, which continues to grow in reputation and reach. In recent months, the fund has delivered impactful initiatives including the donation of 2,000 Easter eggs to causes across
Essex, a TV for a local community hospital, and materials to support summer fetes at 10 local schools in Thurrock.
David Barton, Chairman of the Cross Keys Community Fund, praised the weekend’s efforts and spoke about the broader impact of the fund:
“It’s incredible to see how something as simple as a quiz night or fun run can bring people together and make such a real difference. Thanks to the generosity and energy of our supporters, CKCF has now provided help to nearly 80 local community groups, schools, hospitals and care homes. These are the places at the heart of our towns and villages, and we’re proud to stand behind them.”
From quizzes to cross-country runs, and football to family spirit, the Cross Keys Community Fund is proving that a little creativity and a lot of heart can go a long way.
The message is clear: when the Essex Freemasons get involved, community engagement becomes something truly special, and a lot more fun.
