The Essex branch of the Masonic Trout and Salmon Fishing Charity hold another of their bi-annual fishing events

The Essex Branch of the Masonic Trout and Salmon Fishing Charity, (MTSFC), held the first of the two annual events at Chigborough Lakes, Heybridge, on Thursday 15th May, when 12 youngsters from Thriftwood School, Chelmsford, enjoyed a morning of fly fishing followed by a BBQ lunch.

These events give disadvantaged people with special needs an interactive experience in the countryside to help improve confidence, meet new challenges, but mostly have fun and achieve tangible results and in this case, to take away as many trout were caught.
In addition to most participants going home with some trout, everyone who attended was presented with a certificate, medal and a MTSFC pen by Dennis Baum, the Essex Third Provincial Grand Principal.
A vote of thanks was given to the Mersea Island Lodge No. 5534 for sponsoring this event and to the 12 Volunteer Casters for their support in making it a very successful and enjoyable day and of course to Mike Barrett for taking all the photographs.

The next event will take place on Tuesday 7th October, and any lodge wishing to know more about the Charity or anyone interested in becoming a Caster should contact Mick Behan at
Volunteer fishermen do not have to be Freemasons and ladies are especially welcome. If you have a spare few days a year to help the disabled and disadvantaged, you can find out more about volunteering at these events by viewing a video on the charity’s national website by clicking this link
