Essex Freemasons Champion Inclusivity in Engagement with WI

Essex Freemasons have continued to strengthen their commitment to openness, inclusivity, and civic partnership through a well-received presentation delivered to a Women’s Institute group by  members Steve Hall and Steve Bruyel.

Prepared by Steve Hall with support from the Essex Freemasons Charity Team, the presentation formed part of Essex Freemasons’ ongoing effort to build stronger relationships with civic groups across the county. The session highlighted how community engagement and charitable support in Essex are shared endeavours, with men’s and women’s Masonic Orders working side by side, including the Order of Women Freemasons (OWF) and the Honourable Fraternity of Ancient Freemasons (HFAF).

A warm and attentive audience heard an overview of the wide-ranging benevolence carried out by Freemasons in Essex, from local grassroots work such as the Cross Keys Community Fund, through to the support provided by the Essex Charity Team and the Masonic Charitable Foundation (MCF). Steve and Steve also shared practical examples of partnership working across the county, including support for schools, care homes, youth groups, and organisations assisting vulnerable residents. They also spoke about the growing momentum behind promoting Masonic halls as community assets and the forthcoming 250th anniversary celebrations, which will highlight Freemasonry’s long-standing role in civic life.

Essex Freemasons Community Engagement Lead David Barton praised the initiative, saying:
“Both Steves play a vital role in championing benevolence across Essex. Their engagement with the Women’s Institute, and their commitment to fostering stronger relationships with civic partners, demonstrates exactly how Freemasonry can contribute positively to community life.”

The presentation prompted thoughtful discussion and interest in further collaboration, reflecting the shared values that connect the WI, Freemasonry, and many other civic organisations across Essex.

This event marks another encouraging step in Essex Freemasons’ commitment to working alongside local groups to support stronger, more connected communities.
