Sunshine in Every Stall: Stisted Hall Fete Brings Smiles, Rain or Shine

So, it rained a little… But a brief shower was never going to dampen the spirits of families, friends, and local residents who turned out in great numbers on Sunday for the annual Stisted Hall Fete, organised by the Association of Friends of Prince Edward Duke of Kent Court.

Over 500 visitors passed through the gates to enjoy a packed afternoon of stalls, refreshments, live entertainment, and classic community fun, capping off a year of meticulous planning by Essex Freemasons and organiser Rob Vine, supported by a brilliant team of volunteers.

The event was officially opened at 2pm by Essex Freemasons Grand Master Paul Tarrant and his wife Jenny, followed by a rousing performance from the Essex Police Band, setting the tone for a lively and inclusive gathering.

Guests were treated to a wide variety of stalls, featuring local crafts, beekeeping, photography, and plants, alongside a display of beautiful classic cars. Food and drink were in generous supply with a bar, cream teas, BBQ, and freshly made pizza.

For younger visitors, and the young at heart, there was no shortage of entertainment, with Punch & Judy, Splat the Rat, a Rugby Challenge, Coconut Shy, Balls in the Bucket, Wheel of Fortune, and putting and chipping games drawing smiles all round.

The event also welcomed a range of community organisations and causes, including local charities, wellness initiatives, and creative outreach programmes such as Get Started Art and Essex Charity Teddies for Loving Care (TLC). Among those participating for the first time were members of the Order of Women Freemasons (OWF), highlighting the increasingly diverse and inclusive nature of the day.

Friends President Barry Stedman commented:

“Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and there was a fantastic atmosphere throughout the afternoon. Paul Tarrant officially opened the fete and spent the day meeting visitors and volunteers. Planning will soon begin for next year, but in the meantime, a huge thank you to everyone who helped make it a success, especially our incredible volunteers.”

Reflecting the generous community spirit that defined the day, organiser Rob Vine added:

“A heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped with the set-up and take-down. Our Friends Treasurer, Graham Elvidge, made sure that nothing went to waste, delivering leftover scones, cream, and jam to local hospitals and ambulance stations for staff to enjoy. Here’s to next year!”
