Roles of Learning & Development Officers, Mentors, and Membership Officers

The Membership Officer and Lodge Mentor are central to helping Lodges attract, retain, and inspire their members. Working together, they ensure every Brother feels welcomed, supported, and confident in his journey.

The Lodge Membership Officer (LMO) is the first point of contact for new members. He manages enquiries, supports the recruitment process, and helps new candidates settle quickly. Beyond recruitment, the LMO encourages social activity, checks in with members, and ensures the Lodge follows the Members’ Pathway effectively.

The Lodge Mentor focuses on learning and engagement. By pairing new members with experienced Brethren, making use of Solomon resources, and encouraging participation in Lodge life, he helps initiates understand ceremonies, traditions, and the wider meaning of Freemasonry.

Together, these roles provide the structure that keeps members engaged and connected, helping to reduce resignations and build stronger Lodges.

What we will do

  • Ensure every Lodge has an active Membership Officer and Mentor.
  • Provide regular training and development through Provincial initiatives.
  • Promote the use of Solomon and other learning tools.
  • Strengthen collaboration between LMOs and Mentors to improve retention.

Success will mean

  • New initiates feel welcomed and guided from the start.
  • Members gain a deeper understanding of Freemasonry.
  • Lodges enjoy stronger retention and long-term sustainability.
