The signing of the Armed Forces Covenant by Essex Freemasonry represents more than a pledge, it is a clear commitment to support serving personnel, veterans, and their families. It formalises our historic ties with the Armed Forces, honouring their sacrifices while reflecting our own values of service, integrity, loyalty, and respect.

For our members, this covenant creates opportunities to engage directly with the military community. It allows Lodges to turn recognition into meaningful support, not just through donations, but also by volunteering, mentoring, and providing practical help in areas such as employment, housing, welfare, and mental health.

The initiative has two clear priorities: expanding collaboration with armed forces charities and organisations, and highlighting the shared values between Freemasonry and the military. Both pathways will deepen relationships, build trust, and create visible opportunities for service and partnership.

This is both a moral duty and a practical strategy. Supporting those who serve is the right thing to do, but it also strengthens Essex Freemasonry by attracting veterans and service leavers who seek camaraderie, discipline, and purpose in civilian life. By actively promoting and growing our commitment, we can enrich our membership with individuals of exceptional calibre and ensure our fraternity continues to thrive.

What we will do

  • Expand partnerships with armed forces charities and organisations.
  • Encourage Lodges to support veterans through volunteering and mentoring.
  • Promote the shared values of Freemasonry and the military to strengthen ties.
  • Showcase Essex Freemasonry as a welcoming community for service leavers.

Success will mean

  • Greater visibility of Freemasonry’s support for the armed forces community.
  • Stronger partnerships delivering real impact for veterans and their families.
  • Veterans and service leavers finding a new sense of belonging in Freemasonry.
  • Essex Freemasonry recognised as a Province that honours service with action.
