Packed installation meeting sees senior Provincial presence and tribute to a Mason whose five decades of dedication drew warm acclaim

The Installation Meeting of the Lodge of Beneficence No. 7978 delivered ceremony, celebration and heartfelt recognition in equal measure when members gathered at Orsett Masonic Temple on Thursday 19 February.
More than 40 brethren filled the Temple, creating an atmosphere of strong attendance and unmistakable camaraderie. The occasion was further elevated by the presence of John Singh, Assistant Provincial Grand Master (APGM), whose visit was warmly received and added distinction to the evening’s proceedings.
Following the installation of Steve Ham as Worshipful Master a defining moment came with the presentation of Honorary Membership to Bill Vale in recognition of 53 years of devoted service to Freemasonry. Having been initiated in 1972, he became the Master of the Lodge in 1983 receiving several honours over the years culminating in Past Provincial Junior Grand Warden. Also having already marked his half-century in the Craft with a 50-year certificate in 2023 presented by Mark Smith, Past APGM, this latest honour was greeted with clear appreciation from those assembled, acknowledging an exemplary record of steadfast commitment and contribution.
The evening unfolded as more than a formal installation. It became a celebration of continuity, tradition and loyalty, with fellowship flowing as freely as the tributes. For those present, it was not simply another date in the Lodge calendar, but a reminder of the enduring bonds that define the Lodge and the men who sustain it.
