Martello Lodge host Christmas White Table with virtual extravaganza
A regular festive White Table meeting having lost its Brass Band ‘Puff’ resorted to virtual technology
The Martello Lodge No. 7121, that meets at the Colvin Memorial Temple, Clacton, on Saturday, 7th December hosted its regular Christmas White Table meeting, with a slight departure from the usual format.
As always, they managed their work to accommodate an excellent Passing ceremony, where the Worshipful Master (WM), Dave Hawtin, stepped aside to allow fellow member, Martyn Cartwright to conduct the majority of the ceremony. The WM was more than happy to do this as the young man being Passed was Martyn’s son, Charlie Cartwright.
The slight departure from convention, however, was after the meeting had closed when the White Table evening would usually be attended by a brass band for seasonal festive music and providing accompaniment to carol singing, which sadly this year they were unavailable to attend.
Fortunately, Lodge member, Sam Sherwin came to the rescue and hosted a virtual Christmas music and animation extravaganza. Sam was able to project a captivating log-fire on one wall, and in addition, a karaoke style Christmas carol animation, which created the perfect singalong for the 70 plus members and guests who attended.
A thoroughly enjoyable evening for all the brethren, their family and friends.
