Helping every member find the Lodge where they feel they belong is an important part of Essex Freemasons’ membership strategy

While every Lodge shares the same values and traditions, Special Interest Lodges provide additional opportunities for Brethren to connect through shared backgrounds, cultures, professions or interests, strengthening engagement and encouraging lifelong friendships.
One such example is Nigeria Friendship Lodge No. 10035.
Consecrated in February 2024, the Lodge celebrates Nigerian heritage while welcoming visitors from throughout Essex and beyond. It demonstrates how Freemasonry’s timeless principles can be expressed through different cultures whilst remaining united by the same values of friendship, integrity, respect and service.
On Saturday 25 July 2026, the Lodge will hold its Installation Meeting at Chingford Masonic Hall.
The meeting will see the installation of a new Worshipful Master before members and guests enjoy a festive board showcasing authentic Nigerian cuisine and hospitality, with many members wearing traditional Nigerian attire. The occasion provides visitors with the opportunity to experience not only an important Masonic ceremony but also the richness of Nigerian culture within the welcoming environment of an Essex Lodge.
The event perfectly illustrates the purpose of Special Interest Lodges. They are not separate from mainstream Freemasonry. Rather, they complement it by creating additional opportunities for members to engage through shared interests and experiences whilst strengthening the diversity of our Province.
Whether you have Nigerian heritage, an interest in different cultures or simply enjoy visiting other Lodges, Nigeria Friendship Lodge offers an experience that is both memorable and uniquely welcoming.
Brethren wishing to attend the Installation Meeting on Saturday 25 July are invited to contact the Lodge Secretary using the details provided by completing the following form: https://forms.office.com/r/tiKp6pKLkK?origin=lprLink
As Essex continues to develop opportunities that help members get the very best from their Freemasonry, Special Interest Lodges such as Nigeria Friendship Lodge demonstrate how shared interests can strengthen our Province while ensuring every Mason has the opportunity to find a place where they truly belong.
Photo shows last year’s meeting, held under dispensation from the Provincial Grand Lodge of Essex, which allowed the Installation Meeting to take place outside the usual dress code so officers and visitors could wear native Nigerian attire.
